The Things I Would Do to Keep You Safe

hey peoplez wassup??????????????? i kno, i kno, i haven't been on in AGES, but between math, humanities, film, art, music, debate, the TORTURE known as spanish class and studying for the biology regents (no i am NOT a freshman, i am in the 7TH GRADE, mind you), i haven't had time to do much fanfic, or any pleasure writing, for that matter.

but, i FINALLY found the time to write, so now i am making time to post.
this chapter is dedicated to the Twilight movie, which TOTALLY PAWNED!!!!!!!!! OH YEAH!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!
Disclaimer: Twilight belongs to Stephenie Meyer, i am just one of her many fans. oh wells... *snifflesniffle*
(Warning: this chapter DOES contain SOME romance, so make sure your little brothers/sisters/parents aren't rading over your shoulder throughout this chapter.)
(Other Warning: i have never been kissed before in my 12 years on this earth, so i don't know exactly what it feels like, so i apologize for any mistakes as far as THAT part of the chapter goes)
That night I woke up in the forest. I wasn’t any part of the woods I had seen before. My first thought was Where am I? Then, What am I doing here? You know, the usual Girl-In-Distress thoughts. Almost immediately it registered in my mind that Onyx wasn’t with me. He would never leave me on my own of his own will, where was he? My body and mind went into overdrive as it registered that something must have happened to him.

A bellowing scream confirmed my fear. Onyx. In pain. My brain disconnected from my body as I stumbled through the trees, desperately searching for him. I ran through the woods, pushing past the branches and bushes as I barreled my way forward. Where was he?

I followed his cries of anguish through the forest, letting them lead me to him. “Onyx! Onyx!” I screeched, tripping over everything in my attempt to reach him faster.

I found him in the middle of a clearing, writhing in pain. It was the exact same clearing as my dream. How much more of it would become a reality?

I wrapped my arms around Onyx as his body shook violently. I couldn’t detect any immediate danger. What was hurting him that I couldn’t see?

Onyx’s body was slick with sweat, tears running down his cheeks. “CJ…leave…now…” he gasped. I tightened my hold on him. I knew he could easily break free from my grip, but I didn’t care.

“No chance, Onyx. What happened? Where are we?” he didn’t get the chance to answer. Out of the darkness appeared two cold ones, porcelain skin shimmering in the moonlight.  Chelsea and Jane.

“You thought you could get away with ruining my existence, didn’t you?” Chelsea sneered. Ruin her existence? What was she talking about?

“I don’t know what you mean,” I replied.

She grinned menacingly. “Right. You’re completely clueless. You have no idea whatsoever.” She stepped forward. Onyx stood and started phasing. He could take them both easily. They were not trained to fight.

My hopes were flattened the moment Jane stepped into the light. “NO!” I screamed as Onyx fell to the ground, howling. He phased back to a human, and Jane stopped. I ran to him, stroked his unnaturally hot skin as he took a deep, shuddering breath. “What did I ever do to you?” I asked.

“The Volturi is my reason for existing,” Chelsea hissed. “Without it, I am nothing. If you think you can just waltz in and knock me to the bottom, you’ve got another thing coming.” Jane took another step forward, and Onyx fell to the ground.

“Please stop,” I sobbed, holding him to me as he thrashed in my arms.

“I’m not stopping until you’re gone, along with Aro’s plans of making you his.”

Suddenly everything was white-hot. My body was on fire. I couldn’t see, couldn’t think. I heard Onyx’s shouts far away, though I couldn’t understand what he was saying. My thoughts were incoherent as I burned. Everything started to fade away, and I knew I must be in Hell.

Then the pain subsided. I realized I was not in Hell, though my current position wasn’t far from it. Onyx held me tightly to his chest, rocking me back and forth as I bawled into his shoulder. “I a-already t-told A-Aro no. W-What makes you th-think I want to b-be in the V-Volturi?”

Chelsea snorted. “Why wouldn’t you want to join the Volturi? Even if you say no now, you’ll change your mind in due time unless something is done about you.”

I arched my eyebrows. “And by ‘doing something’ you mean…?”

She grinned contemptuously. Suddenly Onyx’s body began so shake violently. Jane was torturing him, with no intention of stopping. They weren’t going to kill me, they were going to kill my love, and all I could do was sit back and watch.

I wanted to save him with all my heart, but I had no clue as to what I could do. My power was no use to me. Jane could get into Onyx’s head, and I could not.

            Unless… maybe I could.

Onyx was on his back, lurching vigorously. I placed my knees on either side of his waist and grabbed his shoulders. I stared at him intensely as I tried with all of my metal strength to break the barrier Jane had created around Onyx’s mind.

Onyx! It’s me, CJ! Listen to me! His jerking slowed slightly. None of the pain is real; it’s all in your head!!!! Jane is just messing with your mind you know that!!!!! Hopefully, if I could get into Onyx’s head using telepathy, Jane’s power would stop affecting him.

I could fell his body relax slightly beneath me, but I could tell he still didn’t have total control of his body. I spared a glance at Jane. Her brow was furrowed in concentration. She wasn’t going to release control of Onyx’s mind of she could help it.

I had to top her, however I could. I just had to get Onyx’s mind off of Jane. But how? How?

I tightened my grip on his shoulders and lowered my head. Before I could change my mind, I lowered my head, and moved my lips to his.

I had never felt an emotion like this ever before. Onyx’s lips were warm and soft and very, very gentle. His reaction was almost instantaneous, as if he had been waiting for me to kiss him. As I slid my hands to knot them into his hair, his arms rose to wrap around my waist. He had control of his body again, and all it took was a kiss from me. Flattering, no? Yes.

It was a perfect moment, and I never wanted to let go of it.

But, of course, all good things must come to an end.

So fast I didn’t even see her move, Chelsea was running to our side of the clearing. With a shriek of rage, she extended her leg into my side, sending me flying into a tree trunk. I felt a few ribs crack, and I think I may have broken a leg, but I didn’t really notice. All I cared about was Onyx, who quickly morphed into his wolf form. Yes! Yes! Yes! I thought. I couldn’t say much of anything, as my heart had leaped into my throat.

I tried not to look as Onyx tore Chelsea to shreds. Matches! I thought franticly. I need matches! As much as it repulsed me, we had to burn Chelsea’s remains before she could reassemble herself.

Suddenly Jane, whom I had momentarily forgotten, leaped over to me. She ripped some branches from a nearby tree, and in mere seconds a fire was blazing, burning Chelsea’s… remains.

I stared in wonder, mouth agape, as Jane moved over to me. A growl from Onyx slowed her down for a second, but she brushed it off with a “Calm down, dog. I’m on your side.” As she said this, she skimmed her fingers over my leg. “Hmm… it seems to be a clean break,” she murmured, and with a click, she moved my bone back into place. I sighed with relief. It still hurt like H-E-double toothpicks, but it definitely felt a lot better than it had before.

“I’m afraid that’s all I can do for your leg,” she told me with… was it regret?... in her voice. “But… I believe you can do a lot more, if my knowledge of your ability is correct.”

“Oh, right!” I nodded. How could I have forgotten? I used my telekinesis to quickly heal my broken bones. By this time Onyx had phased back to his human form. I tried to distract myself from the fact that his clothing was strewn about us in shreds by recalling the feeling of his lips on mine. His eyes were filled with both relief and concern as he bent over me. He took me in his arms and held me tight against his chest.

He adjusted me so we were both facing Jane. “First, you torture us both. Then, you help us kill Chelsea. What is your deal?” Onyx questioned.

Jane shook her head slowly. “I know it looks like I’m having massive mood swings, but the truth is, I was under Chelsea’s influence. She used her power to get me to want to help her kill you two. But once she was ripped up, I regained control of myself. I know what she did, or tried to do, to you guys was wrong, and so I had to help you destroy her.”

That made sense, in a way. But we would have to check with Edward and Aro to be certain. Oh, man! The Volturi! How could I have forgotten? Somehow I didn’t think they would be pleased with the fact that we had just killed a member of their guard.

“You don’t think Aro will be too upset, seeing the circumstances, do you?” I asked Onyx anxiously. He shook his head.

“I doubt it. But in case he is…” he grinned and flexed his biceps. I rolled my eyes and playfully slapped his arm.

“You are such a fathead,” I giggled. Wow. Was I seriously flirting with a werewolf in the woods in the middle of the night, moments after nearly being killed by a vampire? Oh, the irony.

“Okay, you guys, let’s get back to the Cullens’ place. The rest of the Volturi will probably be there by now, so we can straighten all of this out.” Oh, right. Jane was still here. I guess I just got lost in Onyx’s eyes. His gorgeous, warm, chocolate eyes… oops.
