Hey everyone! This is my first fanfic ever, so if it isn't so good, try using "constructive criticism" and not hurtful things, okay?
Although saving the world is easily my favorite pastime, I have to say I can never get tired of visiting with Mom. Jeb, I’m not so crazy about, but I can modestly say I have the best Mom on the planet. Anyway, we decided to take a break and go home to Mom and my half sister, Ella. Since we’ve never stuck around much during our trips to Arizona, the flock and I decided to see things from above.
We were flying up, high above the trees. It was so peaceful here. Maybe we could stay here forever, with Mom and Ella, baking cookies, and shopping for cute shoes, and baking cookies…
Suddenly, an earsplitting shriek shattered the silence. With my awesomely sharp vision, I could make out flying masses about 2 miles away. I flew a little closer and saw that they were flyboys and a girl about Nudge’s age, apparently fighting to the death. Hmm, let’s see: Option 1- do the right thing and help the kid, or Option 2- fly home to Mom and forget this ever happened. Ooooo, this was a tough choice. A fight to the death or chocolate chip cookies? I chose death.
I shot like a bullet to the screaming girl, the flock right behind me. I slammed the first flyboy I saw with a well-placed roundhouse kick. The flock loyally fought hard. In the event that children under the age of 10 are reading this over your shoulder I will not go into the bloody-gory details. Instead, I will skip to the part where we win the fight.
We landed in the middle of the forest, the girl momentarily forgotten. I did a quick check to make sure everyone was okay. Then we all turned our attention to the girl.
“Just out of curiosity,” I asked “why were you fighting a dozen flyboys on your own, and why do you have wings on your back?”
The girl crossed her arms and raised her eyebrows. “Why should I trust you?” she asked suspiciously. Uh, hello? Was she dense?
“Um, you may or may not have noticed, but we just saved your life.” Fang pointed out.
“Yeah, I noticed, and thanks, but this could all be a setup. You could all be mechanical versions of the Flock used to win my trust so you can hand me over to weirdos who put wings on my back.”
True that. “Look, how can we get you to believe we’re the real Flock?” Fang asked. The girl thought for a moment.
“Do something human, something only you could do”, she said.
“Yeah, cause we love to hack ourselves up and show off our internal organs to prove that we’re not brainless hunks of metal”, Iggy muttered.
“Good enough for me,” the girl said.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on! First you don’t believe a word we say, then you can tell we’re human just cause Iggy acts like a smart aleck?” I asked.
The girl shook her head. “Wrong. I just needed proof that you could do or say something human, like sarcasm. In case you haven’t noticed, robots don’t have feelings except for the ones programmed into them. Sarcasm wouldn’t be part of your system, because it’s a human attribute scientists wouldn’t think necessary.” She was good. She was very good. But who the heck was she?
“So… who are you?” I asked, not really expecting a straight answer.
“Who am I? I’m Elizabeth. I’m an Avian-Human hybrid, just like you. Only I’m a ton different.” What the heck was that supposed to mean?
