Sure as Heck Didn't See That One Coming

i finally have a moment to post the next chapter. i know this one has a crazy twist at the very end that none of you anticipated, but trust me, it's essential to the story. Read and Review, please!

Disclaimer:i don't own Twilight. i would like to dedicate this chapter to Stephenie Meyer for 2 reasons. 1)it's the first chapter that has the Cullens in it, and 2)because of what happened with the Midnight Sun leakage. she needs the support of us, her loyal fans, at this time. so let's all pray for her well-being and for the publishing of Midnight Sun. now onto cheerier topics: ladies and gents, Chapter 5!
You know how whenever you sleep over someone else’s house, when you wake up it takes you a second to remember where you are. Then you’re like, “Oh, that’s right, I’m at so-and-so’s house.” At 8:00am on Wednesday at Jacob Black’s house, this was exactly how I felt.

I wondered why my bed seemed so small, and then I realized I was on the couch. I sat up and stretched. I stood up and decided to go to the kitchen. I took two steps, then tripped over something and went sprawling. I yelped as I fell onto some poor unsuspecting werewolf. Onyx groaned as all 111 pounds of me hit him. “Oops, sorry,” I whispered.

“S’okay,” he replied. “Hey do you know what Billy and Jake have in their kitchen?” he asked.

“I was going in there to see,” I told him. Then I realized I was still on top of him. I hurried to my feet and Onyx pulled himself up.

“Let’s go check,” he said and we walked into the kitchen. I was mildly surprised to see Jacob at the table, sipping coffee.

“Mornin’,” he muttered as he looked up from his cup. ‘

“Hey, Jake.” I started to make a pot of tea. “Where are Mom and Dad?”

“Sleeping, same as Billy.” He took another sip of coffee. “Hey, CJ, can I ask you something?”

I took a chocolate chip muffin out of its container. “Shoot.”

“I was wonderin’ if ya wanna meet the Cullens today.” I choked on my muffin. Onyx whacked me on the back. I quickly gulped down some tea.

“Oh my gosh, of course I wanna go!” I exclaimed. “When do we leave?”

“I’m gonna leave at 9:00 and you’ll go at about 9:30 so they’ll be prepared. Onyx will take you there, he knows the way.”

            “What about Mom and Dad?”

“Billy talked it over with them last night, they’re okay with it so long as you’re here by 5:00.” Jake assured me.

I started to jump around the kitchen, squealing my head off, singing “I’m gonna meet the Cullens! I’m gonna meet the Cullens!” over and over. I have so much dignity, don’t I?”

At 9:30 Onyx and I walked to the woods at the edge of La Push. “Nervous?” he teased.

“A little,” I confessed. “I’m scared they’ll think I’m just some annoying fangirl that gets in their way.”

“That description doesn’t fit you in the slightest,” he argued, ever the gentleman.

We walked into the woods. Well, to be fair, Onyx walked. I spent 99% of the time tripping over everything in front of me. I was grateful when Onyx stopped and phased into a wolf. I climbed onto his back carefully, not wanting to mess up. I sat on his back and knotted my fingers in his fur, and he took off. It was my dream all over again, only 10 times better. Everything was a blur, I was only aware of Onyx as he sprinted through the forest.

How ya holding up? He asked.

            Never better. I replied happily.

Finally we stopped. I climbed down and Onyx phased back. I looked away pointedly as he pulled on a pair of shorts he had brought along. Suddenly I began to fret over my outfit. Were my denim shorts and purple t-shirt too casual? Was my hair messed up from my trip in the woods? I didn’t want to look like an idiot for my first meeting with the Cullens.

“How do I look?” I asked anxiously as we stepped out of the forest.

Onyx took my hand reassuringly. “You look absolutely perfect. Of course”----

“Of course, you always look absolutely perfect. Look, we get enough of the lovey-dovey stuff from Edward, so if you could spare us the goo-goo eyes, that would be great.” Someone interrupted him sarcastically.

I could guess who it was without looking. Emmett Cullen. I rolled my eyes. “Just my luck. Of all the vampires in Forks, the first one I meet is the body builder with the empty head.”

“Uh, hello? Have you seen me, little girl?” Little girl? I don’t think so. I looked up at him for the first time.

Whoa. He was muscular. And huge. I squeezed Onyx’s hand for comfort. “Yeah, I’m looking at ya. Now, could someone please get me a bucket I can throw up into?”

Someone behind Emmett snickered. Edward Cullen, most likely.

Emmett scowled. Then he grinned mischievously. He grabbed me by my arm, wrenching me out of Onyx’s grasp. He started to climb up the nearest tree. He swung me up to one of the highest branches and hung me there by the back of my shirt. My eyes narrowed. “You wouldn’t.”

He smirked. “Watch me.” He jumped down, leaving me hanging. Even if Onyx could have climbed that high, he would never have been able to carry me down. Any of the Cullens could have gotten me easily, but they wouldn’t try to stop Emmett during one of his stupid jokes. Good thing I had an idea that would make Emmett look really bad.

As I went over the plan in my head, I heard laughter from below. Oh yeah, Edward was probably reading my mind. At least I knew nothing bad would happen. Since Edward knew what I was about to do, and he wasn’t objecting to it, I probably wouldn’t get hurt.

I swung forward, and then back, muttered a quick prayer, and then swung forward again.

My plan was that I would fall from the branch, and one of the Cullens, Jake, or Onyx would catch me. (Between you and me, I had hoped it would be Onyx.) Then, I would bawl my eyes out and make Emmett look like a jerk. When he believed I was really crying, I would grin like a moron and shout “Gotcha!”

You may or may not know this, but I have the ability to cry at will. I could be feeling great, but make myself look totally miserable. It’s been useful when I’ve wanted someone to feel guilty.

For a split second I thought What if no one catches me? Suddenly my plan didn’t seem so good. I dimly remembered from Twilight that the Cullens had a couch in their living room. I wished that couch was underneath me right then.

The next thing I knew a black leather sofa came crashing through the window of the Cullens’ house. It landed under the tree at the moment Onyx had thrown himself forward to catch me. I landed on the couch with a thump, Onyx’s arms encircling me.

It took me a moment to realize what I had done. I had wanted the couch beneath me, and I had moved it to the tree. With my mind. I looked first to Onyx, then to the vampires crowding the sofa. “So apparently I’m telekinetic. Wow, didn’t see that coming.”

The Moments of Truth (and some moments of werewolves and sweetness, too)

hey, it's me. (duh. who else would it be?) the title for this chapter is a bit long, but i guess that's appropriate since the chapter itself is pretty long.

Disclaimer:the twilight saga is property of stephenie meyer, and she refuses to sell it to me *sob*. though she is mentioned in the chapter, stephenie meyer is a real person, not one of my characters. she isn't anyone's property.
and now for the chapter...
I stumbled back to our seats, shell-shocked. “Hey CJ, you okay?” Onyx asked me worriedly.

“Uh, Onyx? You’re going to La Push, right?” he nodded. “Do you by any chance know a guy named Jacob?”

“Jacob Black? Yeah, he’s my cousin.” I stumbled forward in surprise. He caught me and lowered me to my seat. “Is he… like you?” I whispered. Onyx leaned back and grinned.

“Naw, I’m the hot one.” I rolled my eyes and punched him playfully on the arm.

“Real mature, Onyx. If you’re the hot one, I’d hate to see what Jake looks like.” appreciative ohhh’s and ahhh’s followed my remark. I grinned at him. “But seriously, is your cousin a werewolf?”
            “Heck yeah, he is.”

“And…have you ever heard of the Twilight saga?”

“Duh. Twilight Night is this week.”

“Do Jake and Sam’s packs exist?”

            “Yeah.”

            “And the Cullens?”
            “Uh-huh.”

“Then aren’t they afraid of being exposed?”

“Hardly. Twilight is supposed to be a fantasy. So no one believes it’s actually true.”

            “What about Stephenie Meyer?”

            “What about her?”
            “How does she know?”

            “How do you think?”
I thought for a moment, then gasped. “She’s a vampire, too!”

            Now she gets it.”

“But she said she got the idea for Twilight from a dream.”
“Your parents probably told you Santa was real, too, but that didn’t turn out to be the truth, now did it?”

I massaged my temples. “Ugh, my head hurts. I am so confused.” I slumped back into my seat.

“Don’t worry,” Onyx told me nonchalantly. “You’ll get used to it.” I doubted that, but I didn’t say anything.

“Hey…since Jake is your cousin, and he’s friends with the Cullens…could I meet them?” Onyx pretended to think.

“Well, I don’t usually do that kind of thing, but for you, I think I can make an exception.” He grinned as my face lit up.

            “Yay, I’m special,” I smiled.

*   *   *

Three days later, we finally arrived in La Push. Onyx and I had to go separate ways at the train station, but he promised he would be at the Black’s house when I got there. In our rental car Mom, Dad and I pulled up to a nice little house. Nikki, Bry and their parents were staying at a motel in Forks since Billy’s house wasn’t the most spacious. On the porch of the house was Uncle Billy. He waved to us from his wheelchair. We carried our luggage to the porch.

“Billy! How’s it going?” Dad asked.

“Never better. How about you, Johnnyboy?”

“I’m great. You remember my wife Kitty, don’t you?”

“How could I forget? You’re a lucky man, John.”

“Don’t I know it? And this is my daughter, CJ,” Dad said proudly.

“CJ! You’ve grown so much since I’ve last seen you! The last time I saw you, you were only 8 years old!”

“Hi, Uncle Billy,” I said sweetly. “It’s nice to see you again.”

“Jacob! Come see the Carters!” Billy called. Down the stairs came a teenage boy with dark skin, black eyes and raven-black hair. He had to be at least 6 feet, 6 inches. The kid was huge! Right behind him was (to my relief) Onyx, waving smugly.

“Hey, CJ, Uncle John, Aunt Kitty. How are ya?” greeted Jake. Then he turned to me. “CJ, what’s up? Onyx was just telling me about how you guys met on the train.” So know Jacob knew about the link. And I knew about Jacob.

“Hey, CJ!” Onyx called down to me. Mom raised her eyebrows.

“Oh…so you two…know each other?” Mom asked.

“Yeah, we met on the train,” I said quickly. “Imagine my surprise when I found out Onyx was Jake’s cousin!”

            “I can imagine,” Mom mumbled.

“Jake, why don’t you take CJ’s bags and show her where she will be sleeping?” Billy suggested. So Jake, Onyx and I grabbed my stuff and Jacob led me to the living room. He set my bags down on the couch.

“I think the plan is for your parents to sleep in Billy’s room, Billy will sleep in my room, you’re gonna sleep on the couch and Onyx and I are gonna sleep on the floor here,” he told me. Then I noticed the air mattress on the floor next to us.

“Thanks, Jake. I was just wondering…since my parents are busy…could you show me your wolf forms?” I asked timidly. They shrugged.

“Why not?” Onyx said. So they led me to the backyard. Once we were there Onyx led me to the far side of the yard, away from Jacob. Suddenly a thought crossed my mind.

“Hey, wait. Don’t you have to strip naked before you phase?” I remembered, and all of a sudden I was feeling a little lightheaded.

They laughed. “You could do that,” Onyx agreed.

“Or you could do this.” All of a sudden Jake’s clothes exploded. I’m pretty sure I got hit in the face with his underwear, but I was too busy trying not to faint to care.

In the spot where Jacob had been now stood a wolf the size of a horse. “Wow, Jake. You’re a…you’re a werewolf,” I whispered in shock.

“No, really? Cuz he never knew that till you told him,” Onyx smirked. He had his hands place protectively on my shoulders. I twisted around and asked

“Can I see you as a werewolf, Onyx?” he nodded.

“Go inside while Jacob phases back. Count to 50 then come back out.” I followed his instructions, and when I stepped outside Jacob was the one on the far side of the yard with Onyx in the middle. Jake motioned me over to him, and then gave Onyx the signal to phase. Soon in his place was the giant wolf from my dream. His huge tongue lolled out the side of his mouth as he panted happily. I stepped closer and closer until I could reach out and stroke his warm, soft fur. I buried my face in it. He had a woodsy, musky scent. Very nice.

“You smell good,” I whispered so only he could hear.

You too. He thought-spoke. We stood like that, just enjoying each other’s company. Sweet moment, yeah? Which meant, as you all know, it had to be interrupted and/or ruined.

“Alright, kids, supper’s on the table and—oh, are you in the middle of something?” Embarrassed, I pulled myself away from Onyx.

“No, it’s okay, Uncle Billy. We’ll be there in a minute,” I assured him, thought I was internally groaning. I looked away as Onyx phased back.  Then the three of us trudged into the house for dinner.

Greetings and Realizations

hi everybody! listen, i'm soooooooo sorry for not posting at all this week, i've been really busy getting ready to go back to skool and all. (yes, i am fully aware of the misspelling of 'school') but i'll be on as often as i can from now on, promise!

you may or may not have noticed but the title of this post is a little different from past chapters. i got kinda tired of saying "Maximum Ride Fanfic Chapter ___" and "Twilight Fanfic Chapter ____" so i decided to start naming my chapters. i know this one isn't very good, but i made this one up one the spot. don't worry, they'll get better.
Disclaimer: okay, you and i both know who owns Twilight and who doesn't, so the heck with it. on with the chapter!
For a moment, no one spoke. Then...

“I thought you were a dream,” he whispered.

“Funny, I was going to say the same thing about you,” I whispered back.

“You can’t be real but…you must be. You look the same, you sound the same…” his voice trailed off.

“I know it can’t be you but…it is,” I murmured. “You’re the werewolf from the clearing, the one who saved me from the vampires,” I smiled.

“You’re the girl who needed saving,” he grinned back.

“Thanks for that, by the way.”

“Ah, don’t mention it. They were newborns, easy to handle.”

Someone cleared his or her throat. Our friends were staring at us uncertainly. Clearly they thought we were crazy. I realized I had never told Nikki and Bryanna my dream.

“Nikki, Bryanna, meet Onyx. Onyx, meet Bryanna and Nikki.” He nodded his head in acknowledgement.

“CJ, this is Skyer and Zachary. Sky, Zach, this is CJ.” I waved briefly at his friends. Then I quickly turned to Onyx.

“The dream had been so real, but I don’t see how it could have happened, even with you standing here in front of me. I mean, when I tripped, I cut my leg. And when I woke up, there was no cut. It’s so weird…” I told him.

“I have a few theories about that. Firstly, maybe we were dreaming the future. That would explain the lack of scars. How could you have a cut when it hadn’t happened yet?”

“That makes sense…well, really it doesn’t. But with everything that’s been going on, I wouldn’t be surprised if that was it.”

“I have another theory, too. You’ve heard of Freddie Kruger, right?” I nodded. “Well, when he comes to you in your dreams, if he kills you, you die in your sleep. But if he somehow doesn’t kill you, you wake up, and your life goes on like it never happened. And when he comes to you, you dream you’re somewhere else, when really you never left your bed. Maybe it’s the same thing? Only instead of Freddie Kruger there are vampires and instead of one person’s dream there is you and me.” I nodded again.

“So maybe our minds are connected somehow?” I wondered. “Like some kind of empathy link, or maybe we’re telepathic, but only to each other.” Onyx grinned. I eyed Skyer and Zach. “Your friends, are they…”

            “Werewolves? Yeah, they are.”

“And you’re the Alpha, aren’t you?”

            “Yeah. How did you know?”

“You have a sort of leadery vibe.”

“You do, too.” He paused for a second. “Let’s see if this link really exists. Don’t talk for a sec, just think something and direct your thought to me.”

Okay, this was strange. Why are we doing this? I thought. I tried to sort of push the thought towards Onyx.

To see if our minds are really linked. I heard his voice in my head, but his lips hadn’t moved. I gasped. “We’re telepathic!” I shrieked excitedly. His face broke into a huge grin. “I wonder how far apart we could be and still hear each other,” I said.

“Okay, CJ? We’re going to the food car. C’mon,” Nikki said worriedly. I let them lead me to the food car.

            “Are you insane?!” Bryanna growled.

“What the heck is going on?!” Nikki yelled.

“Who is that guy?!” Bryanna screamed furiously.

“No, I’m not insane, I just met a werewolf I dreamed about last night, and his name is Onyx. Does that answer your questions?” I answered haughtily. “What’s your problem? You act like I’ve committed a crime,” I continued. I didn’t give them time to answer. “Think about it for a moment. First I have a dream about a werewolf. Then the next day on a train headed to Forks I meet a guy who looks exactly like the werewolf from my dream and who has the same name. Then I hear his voice in my head. What do you want me to do?”

We were all quiet for a moment. Nikki and Bry looked at me nervously. “Sorry we yelled at you,” Nikki mumbled. “We’re just weirded out by all of this.” Bry nodded in agreement.

“S’ okay,” I muttered. For a minute no one spoke.

“Hey CJ,” Bry said suddenly. “Your Uncle Billy lives in La Push, right?” I nodded. “What’s his son’s name?” I thought for a moment.

“Something with a J. John, Jack, Jake—Yeah, that was it, Jake.” The same idea seemed to cross each of our minds. We broke into a run. We sprinted to where our parents were sitting. “Dad, quick, what’s Jake and Billy’s last name?” I asked hurriedly. Dad looked surprised.

“Billy and Jacob? Their last name is Black. Why do you ask?”

“Nevermind,” I mumbled. So, Dad’s friends, who happen to live in La Push, happen to be named Billy and Jacob Black. A coincidence? Yeah, right. I suppose you still believe in the tooth fairy, too?
